Emergency info & protocol

We want everyone to run comfortably and confidently, but sometimes a little patch of loose trail has other plans. Whether it’s a boo boo or something more serious, we have teams and protocols in place to take care of every runner.

MEDICAL SUPPORT

Medics will be located at the Race Village and on standby at strategic locations along the route.

Runners are required to carry their own first aid kits and to adhere to the Emergency Protocols should they require emergency assistance along the route.

WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY

If you become immobile and need to consult with a medic, take the following steps:

  • Stay calm and assess the situation. Initially, use your first aid kit, stay warm, dry and be visible, and remain on the marked course.
  • Trigger the emergency help button via the SOS app (pre-installed on your phone), which will send your location to the Search and Rescue team.
  • Phone the emergency number located on your race bib; you will be asked for your race number, name and location. Help will be sent.

If there is no cell reception:

  • Attempt to trigger the emergency help button via the SOS app, regardless (pre-installed on your phone). A delayed signal may be found, which will send your location to the  Search and Rescue team.
  • Wait for a passing participant to find and alert the nearest marshal or staff member, who will make contact with Race HQ.
  • A medical and rescue team will be dispatched to your location.

While waiting for assistance to arrive, use your space blanket to keep warm. Put on extra layers and shelter from wind and rain if required.

Stay on the marked route - do not try to take shortcuts or leave the race route.

Please be patient; being in a remote area means that it can take time for emergency teams to reach you.

You will either be treated and allowed to continue or be evacuated off the route to the nearest medical area by ambulance or, in life-threatening situations, by helicopter.

Even if you manage to continue, report the incident to race officials or medical staff at the next aid station.
